With English becoming the "global language", trained TEFL teachers are in high demand, in primary and secondary schools, colleges, universities, and private language schools in over 150 countries from Thailand to Tanzania. There is also a growing demand for online teachers so you may work from home or while travelling.
No experience or qualifications required to enrol on our eTEFL online course. In some countries, you will also need a BA degree but not all. Officially, you need a BA degree to obtain a teaching permit in order to teach legally such as China and Thailand. However, there are a few exceptions were a degree is not required. Most ESL teachers do not have a BA degree. You can also teach privately, within a company or you can teach over Skype
You don't need a TEFL qualification for all teaching jobs. You should be aware though that these jobs are usually the lowest paid and not always with the most reputable employers.
A TEFL qualification gives you the skills and confidence to stand up in front of a class of students and teach effectively so it's definitely worth having, especially if you don't already have experience in this.
No, in fact it's often preferred that you only speak English in the classroom to help the students learn. Many TEFL courses will teach you techniques to overcome the language barrier including drawing pictures and using props.
